WebSM Remote Execution / Security
WebSM is a tool that provides a complete set of web-based system management interfaces for the entire RS/6000 domain. It enables administration of single/multiple AIX machines, AIX clusters, and SP nodes from any client platform, including the browser on the PC at the administrator's home.

WebSM is a joint development effort of the IBM labs in Austin and Poughkeepsie and the IBM Haifa Research Labs. Our focus is in the following areas:
  • Security - public key cryptography and the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol. Internal CA (Certificate Authority) fast security configuration scenarios, as well as a solution for a secure applet without requiring a secure Web server.
  • Remote execution - a framework for creating remote objects and invoking their methods in secure way. Solution for managing objects from an applet on other hosts by a router on the applet's original server.
  • Distributed functionality - sequential / parallel command execution on multiple remote machines, as well as a 'Distribute' option on selected GUI operations that performs the operation on multiple machines.
